Sustainable Building workshop, Earth Day, April 19 at UCSC
This Earth Day please join Philip Mirkin for the first HYBRID ADOBE WORKSHOP in two years, to be held Saturday, April 19th on the campus of UCSC. You will learn to build inexpensive sustainable housing at this fun, one-day, hands-on workshop. We will construct a small building and/or sculptural bench, and more. Please join us! Sustainable Building Joins Sustainable Travel
A unique program offers the chance to explore the magnificent Southwest
while learning new techniques of Earth friendly building on an actual housing
project. A hands-on workshop happens September 18-19. Work trades and internships
are available and include travel adventures. At our travel basecamp in the Four
Corners you'll learn how to build with Hybrid Adobe and papercrete and also enjoy
adventures to National Parks and wilderness areas nearby as we combine 15 years
of experience in adventure travel and sustainable building into a new concept

HybridAdobe.com Now Part of Green Building Webrings
We recently joined three webrings that focus on green building techniques. Alternative
Building Techniques & Construction is comprised of a group of websites
providing information on alternative building materials, techniques, and
processes. Participating sites also include coverage of strawbale, adobe,
rammed earth, cordwood, log, post & beam, stone, concrete domes, earth
ships and now Hybrid Adobe. Building
with Earth is comprised of a group of websites that focus on adobe,
cob, earth bags, earthships, rammed earth, papercrete, and earth plaster
over strawbale. The
Eco-Build Web Ring, is devoted to research and information groups dedicated
to improvement of the built environment in balance with the natural environment.

Sustainable Building Work Exchange Programs in Colorado
Later this summer, you are welcome to come to the beautiful Four Corners
Region of the American Southwest and learn how to build with Hybrid Adobe.
You will work on an actual house building project and experimental
building designs. We are offering flexible
multi-day programs that will also cover many applications of this revolutionary
material. This is our sixth year of work exchange programs, and our 17th
year offering wilderness and humanitarian aid relief journeys.

The Hybrid Adobe Handbook released
The first general release edition of The Hybrid Adobe Handbook is
now available. Co-authored by Philip Mirkin and Hazlitt Krog, this 52
page illustrated book explains everything the first-time Hybrid Adobe
experimenter needs to know to get started with this revolutionary building

Philip Mirkin Leads Workshop at the Solar Living Institue
The final day of the 5-Day Natural Building Intensive, 9:00 AM -
5:00 PM on May 7, 2004 at the Real Goods Solar Living Center, Hopland,
CA will be led by Philip Mirkin. Hazlitt Krog will assist. Copies of The
Hybrid Adobe Handbook will be available for purchase.

Philip Mirkin Leads Workshop at Whitman College
Philip Mirkin will lead a workshop on Hybrid Adobe at Whitman College
in Walla Walla, Washington on November
7, 2003. The following day on November 8, Philip will be keynote speaker
for Native American Awareness Month, speaking about native spirituality,
culture, and architecture.

Eleusis Quickdome Workshop Continues for Third Week
We are reprising our weekend workshop to finish the quickdome project at Eleusis,
near Middletown, California (directions).
Pre-registration required. This hands-on workshop will teach Hybrid Adobe techniques
and will offer less talk and more hands-on building experience. Come enjoy
the satisfaction of completing the shell of the dome with us. Workshop runs
two days on Saturday, May 10 & Sunday, May 11. Overnight camping is included.

Hybrid Adobe Workshop at the Solar Living Center
On Sunday, May 18th at the Solar Living Center (home of Real Goods), builder
Philip Mirkin will lead a one day seminar and hands-on workshop that teaches
Hybrid Adobe techniques, construction, and other uses. The workshop will cover
Hybrid Adobe applications for sculpture, garden, insulating, fireproofing,
and home remodeling. The class has over 18 people currently booked, so register

920-acre preserve in Lake County, Northern California, as we build
an experimental Quick Dome project. This hands-on workshop will
teach Hybrid Adobe techniques. Workshop runs two days on Saturday,

Puerto Rico Workshop
The workshop in Puerto Rico was our largest workshop so far. Over 50 people
came including three university professors and six architects. Several building
projects using Hybrid Adobe are now underway in Puerto Rico. Architects recieved five AIA continuing education credits for participation and completion of the workshop. The cover photo of The
Hybrid Adobe Handbook shows one of the completed projects, a Hybrid Adobe stairway that replaced a slippery mud path down a hillside leading to the building site.

Volunteers Work Together to Add Hybrid Adobe to Navajo Health Clinic
Volunteers from several states joined hands to add Hybrid Adobe plaster
and mortar to an alternative health clinic constructed of fibrecrete on the
Navajo Reservation near Wheatfields, AZ. This health clinic offers traditional
native medicine at the site of the Sundance grounds. A traditional sweat lodge
ceremony was offered by the Sundance leaders to the volunteers as a thank you
for their assistance.
